Questions on My Immune System Support

I have been taking Allibiotic CF for awhile now and I seem to be able to tolerate it. Do I need to take an additional oregano supplement? I started to take "iFlora, a Multi-Probiotic Formula, a Blend of 16 Strains 16 Billion Cells" produced by Sedona Labs just recently? At about the same time I started drinking Chocolate Light Silk Milk?. I started having intestinal problems. I connected that to the Silk Milk. Beans are beans in any form! However, I'm still not feeling quite right. My intestinal system just isn't quite right and I have this uneasy weak feeling. I am more regular than I have been in several months! At about the same time I started taking a new Brand of slow release iron? The light therapy box is fairly new too. All in the month of January. Then I think of C Dif. I never had it, but.... Is it possible it can have been dormate since last April? Or am I just thinking too much? I have no fever. I see my internist Monday for a regular followup visit. I saw my neurologist Wednesday for the first time since I was released from the hospital in March 2009. He said I was doing excellent and didn't need further testing. He was surprised I was doing so well and credited it to the excellent physical therapy I got. I have the need/hope to be at my previous level of functioning which he said never happens. 90% was all I could hope for. Well, being the eternal optimist I will continue to attempt to get back there one way or another! I saw my hematologist this past week also. He said my iron level remained at 10.1 which is still below normal. At least it's not a 7 like it was last year. Still another reason to be tired. He continues to think I need another colonoscopy and endoscopy as he thinks I am losing a tiny amount of blood somewhere. It's frustrating as there is no sign of blood in my intestines. I had a colonoscopy 2 years ago. I have been iron deficient for at least 12 to 15 years. He also admits that my iron deficiency is multifactoral. I have PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) which causes anemia. I'm just trying to figure out why I don't feel "quite right" this past week. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks, Lois 16256

Lois: it might be the soy drink, or it might be the probiotic? When I was researching which probiotic to get for the family, I read hundreds of product reviews and quite a number of forums for ailments like irritable bowel and such, and what I realized is that each person reacts differently - not only at the outset, but also after the adjustment period. Maybe doing some similar reading up on your product will help - maybe your experience is typical. Maybe you are having a "flushing of toxins"- type reaction (Herxheimer's), albeit a mild one? I hope this helps. :) Also, dropping the soy for a few days is a very easy experiment... In my experience, the drinks are more digestible than tofu or whole beans, but we are all different. 16260

Dear Lois, It would be very important for you to check that all meds & supplements are compatible and there are no contraindications. Please use caution with iron supplementation, be absolutely sure you are ingesting correct dose, over dosing on iron can have fatal results. http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ingredientmono-912-IRON.aspx?activeIngredientId=912&activeIngredientName=IRON Also can cause gastro upset. How long have you been on Allibiotic CF? Have you attempted to increase dose? Personally I take 2 in AM & 2 in PM. This is what I consider my mainstay maintenance and have for several years now. (When experiencing common illness I’ve increased dose.) I am considering adding garlic capsules in addition to Allibiotic CF (I swear by this product), for those times when I feel my body running down. In saying this there is an understanding when product companies ‘isolate allicin’ (which we prefer for antibiotic properties), this does not include ALL the other benefits garlic provides. LindaA wrote a great piece on garlic under Re: USA/Canada P R O D U C T S Reply #1 by LindaA Posted: May 30, 2008 at 04:14 Re: P R O D U C T S How and Why Garlic works http://www.mrsa-forum.com/products/index.asp?forumID=10394&subject=USA/Canada-P-R-O-D-U-C-T-S We enjoy fresh garlic too, eat it regularly, and plan to grow some this year. The other mainstay in my maintenance is Vitamin C. What dose do you currently take? Personally I fluctuate dosing from 2000mg to 4000mg daily. I accomplish this using EmergenC 1000 mg packets and I usually mix them up, meaning 1 packet Immune Support 1000mg EmergenC + 1 packet Orange 1000mg Vitamin C EmergenC … twice daily is my current dosing, and personally feel best at when ingesting this level. Another mainstay is Fish Oil. I take 1200mg 2x daily. At the moment I’m using Philips Colon Health probiotic as maintenance. This has greatly helped me, and balanced another individual who went for many months of undetectable C-diff, which led to ‘severe’ anemia/bloody frequent stools/hospitalization. I switch up probiotics. I’ve used PEARLS, Natrol BioBeads Probiotic Acidophilus Dietary Supplement, kefir, yogurt, etc. When I was in serious trouble at height of C-diff infection I used Primal Defense along with repeated courses of Flagyl (Metronidazole has been shown to be carcinogenic in mice and rats.), and other experimental combinations, etc. It took many many months to begin to feel normal, although never 100% after infected. Subsequent endoscopy/colonoscopy and surgeries. C-diff is a spore forming bacteria, and incredibly difficult to control. I could not decide even today which infection is more difficult and host destructive. MRSA being gram-positive, Pseudomonas aeruginosa gram-negative, and C-diff gram-positive simultaneously, all multi-drug resistant… this was a difficult set of circumstances to overcome. con't 16273

Additionally I take 1 sublingual No Shot Vitamin B-12 every other day. Periodically I add Oil of Oregano capsules for the benefit it offers. About every two months I’ll start up for a month. http://www.homeremediesweb.com/oil_of_oregano_health_benefits.php Vitamin D every two months, for one month duration. I agree you might drop the silk milk first to evaluate over all well being and balancing out with your current probiotic. If you need to discuss C-diff symptoms... let me know. Hope this helps you Lois. ladyk 16274

Thank you for your responses. Turns out I had a mild intestinal flu as my husband got similar symptoms. It's frustrating getting ill on top of trying to get better. I'm being monitored on the iron supplement as I have anemia. It's very slowly getting higher. Not fast enough for me. The causes are multifactored. I've been on the Allibiotic CF for about 2 months now. I take 1 in AM and 2 in PM. In a few weeks I will increase to 2 & 2. I'm slowly increasing it. I started with just one. I use fresh garlic in cooking all the time. It's great! I have been taking slow release Vitamin C for years only increasing it in the past 3 months to 2 in AM and 3 in PM. I take the iron in PM. It is supposed to help absorption of iron. Hemotologist is okay with it. I take RX Fish Oil. Have to look up amount of mg. Take 2 in AM & 2 in PM. I take Calcium with Vitamin D in the AM. Never with iron. I also take a MultiVitamin called AlphaBetic specially designed for people with diabetes. It contains Biotin which my endo suggested I take. I use the Philips therapy light which helps with my sleep and energy level. I'm continually learning more and more each day about the supplements I take, thanks to you and others on this site. I expect to fine tune them as time goes by as I learn more. I need to learn more about the B Vitamins and if I need to supplement. I'm having problems with my teeth all of a sudden. Infection in nerves in 2 separate teeth. I'm wondering if it is because of the massive doses of vancomycin for 12 weeks? Also sinus & bladder infection like symptoms. The bladder like symptoms may be hormonal. I'm still trying to get adjusted to having no ovaries. The reason for this nightmare! Thanks to ALL of you for your help. Lois 16308

I wrote a lengthy reply, submitted it, it said "go back" and there was no reply there anymore. I've had this happen more than once and it's frustrating. Lois 16345

Lois - I believe the glitch has to do with the verification code timing out before submitting reply. I'm often lucky when clicking back on my browser instead of from the 'go back' screen - which still holds my reply, but you will notice when this happens the verification code will have changed... leading me to believe this is a timing out problem. The verification code is an important screening tool for forum that keeps spammers from slamming forum with advertisements. Not sure if this new program can be tweaked affording us more time to write. Rob is far from home at this time, but upon his return I'll speak with him about potential of extending time limit. I've copied and pasted entries for quite some time as I agree it can be quite frustrating when entire post is lost. Perhaps try using a writing program then copy data over to reply window to avoid timing out. Sorry Lois. ladyk 16349
