Hi,
I've been going through many old posts, and found a thread from a while ago (don't remember how long ago) where someone was going to post people's stories and photos (I think Nancy's birds?). Just wondering if they're still posted anywhere. I'd love to see them!
On a completely unrelated topic, how do you tell the difference between a "normal" pimple and a MRSA or staph pimple? I think I'm starting to annoy my friends because I get very upset (basically, I freak out) at every pimple (which, since my surgery, I seem to get more of lately!). Is it the itching sensation? Any other clues?
Thank you once again!

abcdeb -

I believe the personal stories you're referencing… is an open request on the forum's associated website (under left tab - Stories) MRSA AMERICA & Beyond where a parrot painting, donated with artist permission, is up on site under Nancy’s MRSA story. http://webpages.charter.net/mrsa.america_beyond/index.html

Also some interesting information concerning parrots written by Nancy is up on the Product Forum page 6.

What are you using on ‘pimples’ ? Have you tried Proactiv? Benzoyl peroxide is an active ingredient in Proactiv, having good results in healing common pimples/acne. Pimples/acne are caused by the bacteria propionibacterium acnes, whereas MRSA infections are caused by the bacteria staph aureus. If you are continuing to experience skin anomalies it would be best to be recultured to determine bacteria, and thereafter maintain appropriate topical care regimen.

Best to you,
ladyk

LadyK:

We are very well, thank you. He has retired from his job and is doing cardiotherapy 3 times a week. So far, his doctor is pleased. He did have a few Pacemaker problems, but they have been adjusted.

We are looking at our home differently now and making the changes necessary to make living here easier and more efficient. Since I still have walking problems, especially on stairs, we recently had the washer and dryer brought up from the basement and installed on the main floor of the house. I could no longer carry laundry up and down stairs and neither could he.

It has been an eye opening experience! In the past, one of us could always pick up the slack of the other until they recovered. It's odd to think you can reach a point where you never fully recover. However, you just make the adjustments and move forward.

I like having Will home! I was surprised by that. He pitches in and does some of the simple housework so he fully understands now how hard it is for me to keep all of the balls in the air.

And, we are eating better. I was always a good cook, and now I've become a better cook. All food here is fresh. We are in it to win it!

Hope this finds you very well.

hugs,

Nancy

Yes, ladyk, that's what I was talking about! Oh my gosh, such stories! Heartbreaking, but with such perseverance. Everybody is truly amazing. I'm so happy everybody seems to come out on top.
Nancy, is that your parrot in the painting? I'd love to see pictures! And I'm so glad you and Will are doing well!
Thank you again for answering.

In my experience it's pretty easy to spot MRSA or maybe Cellulitis. The first day it looks like an ordinary small pimple, the second day at least the size of a dime and is hot and starts hurting, and by the third day it's at least the size of a silver dollor - that's the time to see your dr. or go to the hospital. It progresses very quickly.

I have photos all over the internet, but here's a link to one of my Webshots albums:

If you go to YouTube, my channel is Parrotland. I think you can see my videos there.

Nancy:

I glad your husband's home time has had several nice 'silver linings'...:) And, parrots are amazing creatures...

abcdeb:

Our teenage son was having small MRSA pimples mixed in with regular ones near the end of his recovery. He said they hurt a little or simply felt more noticable in some way, and if they were whiteheads, they were yellow in color (that makes sense, doesn't it? ) From my perspective, I noticed them as being a little redder than a regular pimple, a little 'hotter' looking, if you will.

He had them during the 'flushing of impurities' phase, after we had started an intensive round of probiotics.

In my thinking, if you are getting small acne that may be MRSA, you are on the healing end of the trajectory! At least for our son, his pimples behaved like pimples and did not become boils.

FYI, he just got another MRSA pimple break through yesterday after about three and a half weeks clear, but it has abated already in less than a day, so I am still pretty pleased overall. He seems to need a higher dose of vitamin C and probiotics than my husband and me, at this point - we are all trying to step down to maintenance levels of supplements and so forth. Everyone is different! Our situation is not nearly as frightening as it was, though.

Also, our kitty does not seem to be part of the loop anymore. She's had several baths and a lot of time to self-groom, so whatever her load of bacteria might have been, it now seems that she's back to normal.

I hope this helps!

Nancy,
Your parrots are beautiful! Truly awesome! Mia sure looks like she has a lot of personality.

caringaj and Mom in Calif,
Thanks for the detailed descriptions. Just what I needed!!

Mom in Calif,
I'm so happy things are going so well for you and your family. Great news about your son! And good news about the kitty, too! I've finally gone back to treating my dogs and cats like normal (for a while, I didn't want to touch them), and so far so good. But I sure check their skin a lot!

ladyk,
As always, thank you for everything.

My parrots were the best therapy ever. They really don't care that you are sick. They are demanding! They call you name when they are hungry, bored or need a hug. It made me get out of bed when I was unbelievably sick! They kept me focused. I really sometimes feel I owe them my life, for they made me work hard and get well.

Pets are wonderful therapy.

And, Mia is very, very sweet. She may look raggedy, but her heart is golden.

MRSA made me appreciate what I have. Will's heart attack made we appreciate what I almost lost. There was a lesson to be learned and I was a very good student;)
