I would try something else besides using a razor (Smooth Away, etc...), or try changing to a sensitive skin type razor. Were you told that you had MRSA in the absess (sp?)? Does it swell up and then go away on it's own, or do you have to get treatment every time? 15935

kayla - Are you using Hibiclens antimicrobial wash? Lesion may ‘close up’ as you say - but from what you have written infection is far from being under control. It would be important for you to address both topical and internal care protocols and stick with maintenance... otherwise you can keep this going round and round until progression carries infection to greater degree. You are aware MRSA is a human contagion… yes? You would do best to read through forum and see how others are able to control MRSA infection. Asking the questions is first step in proactive care. Follow through is imperative. What immune system support are you using? Best wishes, ladyk 15939

In addition to the above advice, make sure to disinfect every grooming item that you use anywhere on your body - razors (blades or electric), scissors, tweezers, nail trimmers, etc. Before I shave, I soak every item I'll use in isopropyl alcohol and rinse them in scalding hot water. I repeat the process for every item when I've finished shaving, in addition to wiping down (anti-bacterial wipes) the entire vanity counter and sink and any item on it. I also apply an alcohol-based pre-shave anywhere on my head that the razor may come in contact with. The process has been tedious, but it allows me to shave with minimal irritation or outbreak afterward. 16465
