I have been using The antibacterial soap every day and swabbing nose with muropicin first week of every month.Different doctors are telling me different things. Some tell me to swab nose everyday, another says 5 days on and two off,and yet another has told me one week every month? And with the wash they say everyday, and another says three days a week.Anyone have a regimen that is working with these without over doing it? The same with the allicin, oregano, olive leaf extract and C. Should I be doing all these at the same time or alternating some? I can see taking the allicin everyday and the C, but I have been having an issue with the Wild oregano giving me a burning sensation in my chest and causing irritation with bowel movements. I have not brought olive leaf yet.Hope someone who has been without an outbreak for awhile can give me some answers here. Please help anyone ? 15079

Ruth - You're welcome. Contracting MRSA certainly helps most become aware of the unseen world of micro-organisms. I believed it is always best to know what you're up against. I'm content in knowing you have become aware of the consequences of over using antibiotics and antimicrobials. I hope this will further help you to gain control of bacteria, which leads to balanced system health. Best to you Ruth. ladyk 15109

I have had MRSA 3 times as the result of surgeries. My new infectious disease doctor said experience at the Veterans hospital shows great success with: Mupirocin in the nose 2 times a day for 5 days. Make sure you get it up into the bulb at the inside top at the front of the nose. Apply a blob there and then pinch the sides of your nose and massage it in. Wash hands thoroughly - 15 to 20 seconds. One doctor said I should repeat that the first week of the month for 2 more months, but the one with VA said it was not necessary if I did the following Hibiclens routine. Make a small basin of Hibiclens and water and thoroughly soap yourself from head to toe completely avoiding eyes. Get your back and under any skin folds. Let it stand 1 minute before washing off. Do this for 7-10 days once a day. After you finish, throw out the sponges and basin. Change your sheets the first day you do this (so you do not reinfect) and change them at least once a week thereafter. (I changed my pillowcases every other day for a week, since my nose was dripping a little from the Mupirocin.) Clean household surfaces with Lysol disinfecting spray (their website has how -to's) or with a solution (must be made fresh daily) of chlorine bleach (1 part bleach to 10 parts water.) Don't forget doorknobs, telephones, the TV remote, etc. Wash all towels, linens, etc. that you can in hot water with chlorine bleach and dry in hot dryer. Launder everything else in the hottest water it can take. Replace all razors and similar personal items that may harbor bacteria or sanitize them in a chlorine solution. Then, focus on making your skin healthier so it can resist colonization with MRSA: use NO antibacterial soaps - they kill your good bacteria, too; instead use a good moisturizing soap like Dove, Tone, Jergens, etc. - not Ivory or Dial (dry skin is prone to MRSA.) Drink 3 LARGE glasses of water a day. NEVER wash your skin with hot water - only warm. Keep your skin moisturized. Never share personal items. Wash your hands often and then moisturize them. Hope it helps - I've been there! 16173

I have had 4 or 5 outbreaks within the past 1-1.5 years. The last one occuring about two months ago. One thing that I tried with the Hibenclense is to apply it to the skin and let it sit four at least five minutes before rinsing your skin. There was a "decolonization" method that stressed the time, but unfortunately I don't have the web address. Maybe somebody can chime in. 16206

Walter - I have a few questions if you don’t mind… when was your last culture? Nare? Lesion? Where on your body are you experiencing outbreaks? Are you seeing an Infectious Disease specialist? What antibiotics have you been on since initial outbreak? Also, I was wondering what you’re doing to support your immune system? If you have suffered 4 or 5 outbreaks over the past 18 months, this would strongly suggest you have a weakened immune system. In my opinion MRSA care is twofold... being MRSA infections are commonly both a topical and internal health risk issue. Therefore both aspects of care are necessary in controlling this bacteria. It would be to your benefit to read some of the posts here on forum. Seeking to become knowledgeable about this affliction benefits you utmost, but it also benefits all those around you who are at least protected (as much as humanly possible) from contracting MRSA from you. Also important to look into is cross contamination, and how to minimize/avoid this aspect of a contagion. If you would like to discuss your regimen of topical care (how often your using Hibiclens, are you able to contain outbreaks using your method of topical care, lesion care, etc. let us know. We are always interested in learning from others, as well as advising. Gather all the information you can… and with a discerning mind, decide what's best for you particularly. Best wishes, ladyk 16208

Please see my posts under Nyker--I've been MRSA free for four years now!! : ) I still use hibeclens, and I use bacitricin (over the counter) in my nose everyday. My infectious disease specialist thinks it's better than muciporin and less costly (which it is). 16367

In your post -mrsa misdiagnosis and maintenance- you say no culture was done. A month later some doctor said you had a staph infection but it was not mrsa! And an md stated you were colonized with mrsa in the nose. Did they GUESS you were nare colonized with mrsa? By what you wrote you never had mrsa confirmed by culture? Maybe you had MSSA, or maybe you had simple staph infection like the doc said, or maybe you were just colonized all along! 4 years later you are still using hibiclens and bacitracin -every single day??? What about resistance? Maybe you should read this http://www.orthosupersite.com/view.asp?rID=25639 -Because of its lack of efficacy, bacitracin should no longer be considered for MRSA decolonization. Everyone should be weary of people boasting claims of cure when they don’t even know if it was mrsa to begin with!!!! 16379
