I contracted MRSA after surgery

I had surgery a couple of months ago and contracted MRSA. This has been like a death sentence to me. Everyone treats me like a leper, even my husband. How does everyone deal with this?

I deal with it this way: I try to educate everyone that will listen to me that ALL of us are at risk. My family and friends have been wonderful BECAUSE I gave them the facts. I didn't try to cover anything up. I didn't do anything wrong, I simply had lousy luck during a hip replacement surgery. I, too, have been fighting for my life. Sometimes, I didn't think I'd make it. But I AM improving and feeling a lot better. Its been 7 months of living without a hip, totally dependent on my family and friends. Its a humbling experience that's for sure.

I'm really sorry about the way you have been treated. Get pro-active. I tend to not let folks get away with that kind of stuff. If their ignorance is the issue, then all I can do is try to give them the facts. As for your husband, I haven't a clue what to say. I have been there for my husband when he had open heart surgery and any other time he needed me. He always reciprocates. Seems to me, there was no clause in the marriage contract that said "love, honor and obey UNLESS your wife gets MRSA." Maybe he needs to reread his vows.

Mary,
I know how you feel, my husband was the same way when I contracted MRSA. He was ticked at me for being sick, and blamed me for it because I'd chosen to undergo elective surgery about 6 weeks prior to getting sick. I contracted it at work thru a tiny incision on my side but he claimed it I hadn't initially had the surgery that none of it would have happened.
It's hard when you feel you have no support system. That's when I really turned to this forum. I had support every step of the way, and when I was down and didn't feel I could take anymore, somebody or several on this forum was there to support me. So get on your suppliments to help you re-build your immune system, and use this forum for support. Hang in there, it will get better. God Bless, Linda

I had surgery on shoulder in feb. contacted rsma, since then 5 more sugery's. My doctor did'nt want to accept that I was sick from surgery, he kept telling me to see my primary doctor. Once diag with mrsa by infection disease doctor.Orthpedic Surgeon would do surgery to clean shoulder,,,,, but by not taking out perm sticthes and anchor, the mrsa keeps coming back.I have been on a pic-line with home health, since march. Once he took out perm stiches, and not MRI showed that the infection had traveled to my bone. At that time surgeron took out anchor and bone marrow. He then put impregnanted beads in my bone, after appox. 5 weeks, removed beads. I am not running fever now. But due to such high antibiotics, I am enemic. I have gone back to work. My shoulder stills needs to be fixed. Torn rotator, but I am worried about surgery again, I also wonder if my surgeon had acted more quickly that I would not have had to have six surgerys.

i'm going through the exact same thing , except only at work. there are 4 people there that doesnt treat me like i'm diseased.
people really dont know about MRSA. the doc told me everyone has it, only a select few break out with it. i've had it 5 months now, got it from visiting someone at the hospital who just had a baby. just hang in there. you should get some phisohex soap, you have to go to the doctor for it though. so far i've been one month with out it. ( i would have one pop up at the beginning of every month. its very painful. physically and emotionally. also, my dr. said that if you put neosporin on a q-tip and swab the inside of your nose it will help with bacteria that tends to grow there.
good luck with everything.

Went in to Hutzel Hospital in Detroit MI to have baby, 3 wks later breast developed absess and I was hospitalized and had surgery. 3 days later I was told MRSA developed in the wound and not to worry. The Dr and nurse made me believe that it was'nt really nothing to worry about. I did the research and found out differently. I am upset that this has happened. The staff at the hospital is nasty and treat you like you are dumb.

I can only sympathise and pray for all who replied and know what having MRSA really is. I had the same feeling when my 16 year old daughter contracted MRSA in hospital in Malta after undergoing surgery. At least hospital admin/staff ought to have had the decency to stay with our only daughter in Intensive Care continuously while she was passing through this ordeal and hardship encountered in hospital. Instead especially in the first month before we lost her we had only limited time 30minutes morn and 30 minutes evening. Not only did they infect her but had to deprive her of all the moral support she could have. Where are our rights???? Then we talk of third world countries. I still suffer terribly each day when I remember how she and we, her parents were treated. Vist www.karengerada.com. Take courage all. Remember you in my prayers.

Google oil of oregano and you will be on your way to good health!
It needs to be the wild oregano P73 from the mediterannian. Also google Dr. Cass Ingram or find his book The Cure is in the Cupboard.

My mother may have just contacted mrsa
after a surgery...is their any liability taken
by the performing surgeon? Should I get
her a lawyer? I'm terrified after reading all
these posts.

I too contracted MRSA after breast augmentation surgery. Three surgery's later, my life has been turned upside down. My surgeon blames me because I am a healthcare worker and said I probably had it anyway. He takes no accountability, what a crime. My infectious disease Dr. saved my life literally. She has been my advocate and crusader throughout this tragedy. I had to stay in L.A. for weeks without my kids for treatment and have been off work for months. I live in Arizona. I still need more surgery later in the year but like so many of you the fear of it all is unbearable. I am still in pain and tire easily without much exertion. I will be an advocate for the cause. Good luck to all of you. We must remain strong. I will be taking action. I received my first bill of many to come..... $89,700 for starters. Don't give up the fight!

I contacted mrsa after back surgery. I have 4 small rods in my back. when I went back into the hosp with the infection, they said I had mrsa and the infectious decease doctor said he hoped it wasn't in the hardware. they did a pick line for the medicine for about a week. they did a blood test and everything was good. this was 2 years ago, is it possible that the mrsa could be in the rods and I am just beginning to feel bad.

I have had 4 major back surgeries (basically replacing my spine) the first 3 went extremely well. typical aches and pains, but ended up going well. this 4th surgery was a huge surgery, i had the first surgery on oct 15 the second day oct 16 they did the hardware. right away i didn't feel well had high temps the entire time i was in the hospital, i also had huge seiping from the site, (basically my entire back) and some in the front surgical site, that was managed to be cleaned up. I was sent home with a fever and the mess pouring out of my back. I went home to Visiting nurses, who where not able to keep up with the amount of fluid, and the smell of what was coming out. I also had a fever, soken wet in sweat but had the chills . I thought I was going to die, I was praying for death I was so sick, The nurse sent me back to my doctor, I saw the PA, he put me in the hospital on a bunch of anitibiotics. I went home and back to the same situation.
(I had this surgery and did not realize my surgeon was on vac. that day.the covering doctor never once looked in on me or checked the site.I went to see my surgeon, he took a knife cut me open in his office and sent me to have surgery right then, they put a wound vac in.
it was just repulsive to see what was coming out. NOW they call in the infectios disease doctors. I have MRSA, it is now in my bones because it was not treated in time. I have been in a rehab/nursing home since nov 1. It is now Jan.. I have missed every major holiday and my son, just adviced me I will never see my grandchildren ever again. because he is not going to let his children be exposed my sisters will not come near me, because they are afraid of passing it on to their families. I have tried to explain to them, that I myself am not contagious, we all carry some form of MRSA ....they do not want to hear it. I have people in and out of my room all the time. But not my sisters or my kids. I am so emotionaly upset at their reaction to this situation. When it comes time to go home I just know it is going to be very lonely with out my family..all because one doctor didn't take the time to do his job. My personal surgeon is furious.. he thought he left me in good hands.. well he knows now that that dr was not a very good choice.. to late for me... KMD

I was MRSA free before GB surgery 6 months ago. Three pritr surgeries
the year before with no problems. Doctor insisted he use the Davinci
surgery robotic thing. Now I have MRSA diagnosed a few weeks ago.
Doctor was very cocky, very abrupt. Did surgery as an out patient. I
was in the ER the next day with a high fever. Shouldn't he be
responsible for his neglect?

I contracted MRSA after breast surgery , he kept trying to save my implants by
blaming it on everything but what it was a dirty operating room .. I've had 3
surgeries with him using the same implants . Not even changing those biofilm
contaminated things . You would think that a Dr would no better !!
